Around Gilgel Beles

Welcome to Gilgel Beles, Ethiopia
It’s a small village 120km from the nearest asphalt road at an altitude of 1000m (the lowest point in the area with Mar/Apr temperatures hitting 40°C in the shade every day.)

View of the village from a small hill in the South.

View looking towards the hill. In the far background is Kar Ridge (2000m)

Beles River

It reminded me of the wild west - these are shops.

Matching the stereotypical view of Africa - dry season, mud huts on the outskirts of the village. Of course in the wet season it's all green, and in the large towns there are new shopping centres.

Local gang of hoodlums!! The children were great in Gilgel. They were so pleased just to shake my hand.
